Cisco Wireless Router troubleshooting Steps for Setup


Cisco routers provide intent-based routing services for WAN, LAN, and cloud. The users will get a comprehensive customer experience through real-time analytics and on-premises application performance. When you purchase a new Cisco router, you may initially face difficulties in the setup process. Discussed here are possible reasons for any such issue and some Cisco Wireless Router troubleshooting tips during the first setup.

Problems during the Cisco Router’s first setup

· All LEDs are off

· Internet LED is off

· Cannot connect to the Internet

How to resolve issues during the first setup?

1. No power to the router

· Ensure that the power switch is ON.

· All the connections with the power supply must be secure.

· Check if the power outlet has power.

· If the problem persists, a faulty power supply could be the reason.

2. No internet connection to the modem

· Check for any physical damages to the cable before Cisco WiFi router troubleshoot.

· Visit the ‘Connecting a Server, PC or Workstation’ section or ‘Connecting a Broadband Modem’.

· Check Figure 2-1 to ensure that all the cables are properly connected with the device.

· Ensure that the connectors at both the ends of cables are secure.

3. Cannot connect to the Internet

· If you cannot connect to the Internet, there may be problem with the broadband or WAN service.

· Router may be improperly configured.

· Reconnect the modem or external Ethernet switch.

· Ensure that modem is receiving power.

· Check with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) if there are issues with the network.

· To configure the router, use Cisco Router Web Setup software.

· Follow the procedure mentioned under the “What to Do If You cannot Connect to a Website” option.

· Configure your router with the computer with which the console port is connected.

4. Wireless router gateway configuration

· If you have a gateway with an integrated router, you will need to configure the gateway.

· This is important to disable the router and pass the WAN IP address and network traffic through your new router.

· This may eventually lead to improper functioning of the device.

· You may need to contact your ISP for gateway configuration.
